About:
Khalanga War Memorial is a very special heritage place in Dehradun. It is the world’s first and only war memorial built by a victorious army (British) for its enemies (Gorkhas). Built to honour the bravery of Gorkha soldiers led by General Balbhadra Thapa who fought the Battle of Nalapani in October 1814.

The memorial is located in a dense, peaceful forest area surrounded by pine and sal trees. From here you get a beautiful panoramic view of Dehradun city.

Hike / Walk Details:
– Total Walk Distance: 6-8 km both sides from main road
– Short Walk from Parking: 500m – 1 km to memorial
– Car Access: Car/Bike can go directly till the memorial gate, but the forest walk is more beautiful
– Time: 30 min one side walk through forest, 1.5 – 2 hrs for full exploration
– Location: Nalapani, Raipur Road, 6 km from Dehradun City Centre (near Sahastradhara Road)
– Trail Type: Easy, well-maintained jungle trail with pine trees. Perfect for beginners, family and secret trail lovers.
